This summer sees new social enterprise Kitchenette host an exciting and pioneering pop-up in the heart of Islington: from 11 July until 28 August, the old Citroen garage, hidden behind a pair of vast red doors just off Upper Street, will be transformed into a unique culinary experience offering a plethora of restaurants, tastings and demonstrations.
Advice on setting up your own food business
But that’s not all – Kitchenette will also give would-be entrepreneurs indispensable information and advice about setting up their own food business.
Included among the many highlights will be a presentation by MEATliquor founder Yianni Papoutsis about the journey from burger van to restaurant empire (a special MEATliquor stand will also serve Yianni’s delicious creations). Martin Morales of Ceviche fame will host both a tasting and a talk about how he set up his Peruvian kitchen, whilst Yum Bun´s Lisa Meyer will serve up her signature hand-made, pillow-soft steamed buns as she takes her audience through the ups and downs of her own opening night.
Meanwhile a series of Food Start-Up Masterclasses will offer a veritable A-Z of going it alone, from designing a business plan through to producing a killer menu.
Proof in the eating
The proof of the pudding, as they say, is in the eating, and Kitchenette’s Summer Pop-Up offers plenty of opportunity to do just that. Included among the many offerings will be a Romantic Chinese Speakeasy by Wong’s (Thursdays through Sundays), a Vietnamese Feast by Bunta and a Pop-up Prosecco Bar courtesy of La Piadina Pronta. The Good Egg will also be serving a delicious brunch every day from 9pm-3pm.
Acclaimed Borough Market-based restaurant Roast, whose owner Iqbal Wahhab is also chair of Kitchenette, will be laying on a hog roast, the profits from which will be donated back to Kitchenette.
Equally anticipated is an appearance by multi-talented chef Wyatt Shevloff (Ex-All Star Lanes) who will be introducing Londoners to his unique American southern soul food in the form of a Southern Brunch.
The schedule is constantly being updated, so please check the listings at http://www.wearekitchenette.com/
