Eden Hotel collection goes green with 50% increase in recyling

By James Russell: Eden Hotel collection goes green with 50% increase in recyling

July 1, 2013

The Green Team are in full force at Eden Hotel Collection, with a strategy to significantly improve environmental measures across their seven luxury hotels.

Eden Hotel Collection’s operations team began discussions in early 2012 with SITA UK – with the idea of a group contract for all seven hotels in mind. SITA UK is the recycling and resource management company dedicated to protecting the environment, employing ground-breaking initiatives such as converting plastics to diesel fuel.

The hotel group, as with any savvy business, were looking into cost savings by partnering with a recycling company as well as seeking the opportunity to manage and monitor waste management in a much more structured and environmentally conscious way.

The result?

All seven hotels are now recycling food waste in addition to plastic, cardboard paper and glass, and statistics from SITA show that as the hotels have more than doubled recycling across the group from 23% to 48% in May 2013.

Josefine Blomqvist, Operations Manager at Eden Hotel Collection, commented,

‘We are delighted that we have been able to reduce our waste across the group by such a significant amount. Protecting and conserving our environment is a responsibility that we take very seriously at Eden Hotel Collection and we are pleased to be doing our bit.’

Targeting 60%

Eden Hotel Collection now aims to maintain and fine tune current practices in order to increase recycling even further to 60% by the end of 2013.
