National Waiters Day: Gleneagles joins the celebrations

By James Russell: National Waiters Day: Gleneagles joins the celebrations

June 13, 2013

National Waiters Day is the brainchild of Fred Sirieix and is designed to celebrate all front of house staff – whether a waiter in a fine dining restaurant like Galvin at Windows; a dub dub in TGI Fridays; a shaker in Ed’s Easy Diner; a mixologist in Salvatore’s cocktail bar; or a barista in Benugo.

National Waiters Day is taking place on 23rd June 2013, and will be a day to celebrate all front of house staff, and inspire people about careers in the Hospitality industry.

The day aims to change the perception of Front of House and Service as an unskilled job working long hours to one of a job that offers good skills and leads to a rewarding career with good progression routes and amazing rewards.

It will be a day of celebration of the excellence, dedication, hard work and discipline of all 2.5 million working in the Hospitality industry in the UK.

The day will demonstrate the values of the profession with a range of activities and events – be part of it!

Gleneagles celebrates with skills showcase

To mark the first annual National Waiters Day, The Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire, will be running a skills showcase and competition for local schools and colleges on 17 June 2013.

The Gleneagles team has planned a day of events for aspiring hospitality stars in their local area, which will include demonstrations of table side service, flambé skills and mocktail making, followed by a ‘waiter race’ and competition which will allow guests to try their hands at the skills on show.

Alan Hill, Gleneagles’ Director of Food & Beverage, commented:

“National Waiters Day is a great opportunity for the front of house team to showcase their art and skills, all of which are an integral part of the dining experience.  At Gleneagles we’re very committed to retaining and developing these service skills, which stand equally alongside the culinary skills of the kitchen.”
