Ten lucky pub poker players from across the UK have secured the last ten places available to win a trip to Las Vegas after finishing in the top ten of the latest Redtooth Poker Vegas 100 tournament.
More than 200 of the best pub poker players in the country took part in the second national semi-final at Genting Club Sheffield, with the best ten now joining ninety other players, who are already heading to America in May after winning their regional tournaments.
Vegas 100, organised by Redtooth Poker, is the UK’s largest live pub poker league with more than 1,000 venues and 150,000 players registered with the event since it was launched in 2007.
Martin Green, managing director of Redtooth Poker, said: “We are delighted to complete the final 100 pub poker players to be travelling to Las Vegas with us.
“This year’s Vegas 100 has seen thousands of players taking part in pub leagues right across the country for the last 12 months. It is therefore a fantastic achievement for anyone to reach this stage.
“The tournament has been running for a number of years, but this will be the first time we will be taking this many players to America. The final 100 are the best pub poker players in the UK and they will now be able to experience Las Vegas – the home of poker!”
Why play Redtooth Poker in your pub?
With 150,000 players registered for this event since 2007, it’s clear that Texas Hold’em Poker is a rapidly expanding phenomenon within pubs in the UK.
And this form of Poker offers a completely legal solution, giving players the opportunity to play for prizes or for small stakes within the guidelines set out by the Gambling Act 2005.
Redtooth Poker has proved extremely successful: hundreds of pubs experience a substantial increase in sales on their poker nights with an activity that generates a very positive atmosphere and creates a community spirit in the pub. Such Poker events require customers to be in the pub for an extended session from 7.30pm to 11pm.
Redtooth Poker has been a great success for many: “We have had over 200 players register to play and over fifty players turn up to play regularly on a weekly basis. For £20 a week it’s a great business builder!” – Martin Briggs, Licensee, Talbot Inn, Mansfield
Legislation
Since September 1st 2007 pubs have been allowed to play for small stakes or prizes. The maximum stake per person is £5 up to a maximum pot of £100 per night. Any prizes given away cannot exceed £100. Private members clubs can play for increased stakes of £10 per night with a maximum pot of £250. Venues are not allowed to charge players or to take a cut from the pot.
There are other legal restrictions and procedures which each venue needs to follow in order to fully comply with the law, or the penalties can be severe. Redtooth have produced a full briefing with all the options available and provide the documents required as well as the support needed to make the most of these opportunities.
