A recent article in The New York Times by Jane L. Levere points out that guest room entertainment is turning away from TV: many guests now prefer to plug into the hotel’s WiFi signal, and use their iPad, laptop or other device to stream programmes.
Such guests actively prefer to find their entertainment in this way, meaning that the companies that traditionally installed and maintained hotel TVs and video-on-demand services are suffering.
Meanwhile, companies such as Swisscom Hospitality Services are developing and providing the systems travellers want in order to access the entertainment they want, how and when they want it.
