Just Falafel, the largest falafel chain in the world, has landed in the UK with three London restaurants now open in Monmouth Street, Baker Street and Hammersmith, and plans to roll out 200 outlets in the next five years, including Charing Cross, Croydon and Cambridge over the next few months.
Fast growing worldwide
The Middle East’s fastest growing brand has seen rapid growth since it opened its first store in Abu Dhabi in 2007, and now has 33 operating stores, 50 locations under development and over 800 franchises sold across 17 different countries. The company is also looking to introduce the concept into South America, Canada and the USA. Increasing revenues threefold every year, the group doubled profit to about $3.5m last year and is considering an initial public offering.
Global makeover for traditional street food
Just Falafel’s vision is to transform the fast-food industry by elevating the traditional Middle Eastern street food dish and giving it a global makeover, offering consumers a diverse range of authentic, fresh, great tasting, and highly nutritious ‘good fast food’ dishes.
From just three falafel sandwiches six years ago, it now has a comprehensive menu featuring its authentic falafel prepared using the freshest, ethically sourced ingredients like fava beans and chickpeas, blended with fragrant spices from around the world.
In addition to the original falafel wrap with cucumber and turnip pickles, shredded parsley, shredded mint and tomato with tahini dressing, rolled up in a wrap, they now offer a range of global flavours in the shape of falafel sandwiches including American, Greek, Indian, Egyptian, Japanese and Italian versions. They offer a range of soups, sides and dips including hummus and wide range of sauces and a selection of hot and cold drinks. They also plan to introduce a range of salads later this year.
Stores will be a mix of sit-in and take away formats with the average outlet size currently at 500sq ft.
Healthier and tastier fast food for Brits
UK CEO Michael Biggins comments: “This is a stunning product – a staple and humble vegetarian street food over a thousand years old that we have given a 21st century twist. It’s nutritious, delicious, prepared fresh and fast in our stores. There has been a rising interest in authentic, healthy food in the UK over recent years, and we want to offer Brits a genuinely healthier and tastier fast-food alternative to what they can find today. ”
