The Inn @The Grosvenor banishes Channel 4 memories

By James Russell: The Inn @The Grosvenor banishes Channel 4 memories

April 22, 2013

The Grosvenor Hotel, Torquay, the subject of the smash hit Channel 4 TV series, The Hotel, has re-opened the doors to the Inn @ The Grosvenor following a revamp to both the restaurant and the menu.

The new star of the re-launched restaurant is head chef Ricco Jenkins who undertook his apprenticeship at the prestigious Claridges Hotel in London, and who has developed a widespread industry reputation for his pastry prowess and champion chocolatiering skills.

A far cry from the horrors of Channel 4

Ricco’s aim is to reassure local Torquay residents that the Inn is now a far cry from its Channel 4 TV days where there were flies in the soup and the chef served up questionable curries.

The re-launched Inn offers an eclectic menu, designed to appeal to a wide variety of tastes but the common denominator is quality produce with great attention to detail.

Customers can choose from an array of locally sourced dishes including West Country beef steaks, Exmouth Bay Mussels steamed in Thatcher’s Cider Cream and baked Somerset Camembert.  The menu will also feature a Brixham market fresh catch of the day.

Traditional British puddings – with a creative spin

Desserts, given Ricco’s expertise, are a mouth-watering feature of the Inn menu.  Owner of the Grosvenor Hotel and the Richardson Hotel Group, Keith Richardson is a great supporter of traditional British puddings and insists that at least one features daily on all of his hotel restaurant menus.

Chefs within the group are also encouraged to put their own creative spin on this great tradition and Ricco has plenty of exciting ideas up his sleeve, including his take on a Black Forest favourite which comprises a Kirsch flavoured Ice cream, bathed in a black cherry compote and topped with a rich, chocolate truffle.

Quality food, affordable price

Keith Richardson, an ardent foodie himself is committed to offering his guests food which is of the best quality but at an affordable price.  “Guests should never have to compromise on food quality.  Food in British hotels is often over-priced and mediocre in quality at best.  My aim is to offer a meal that surpasses expectations of quality for the whole family but won’t break the bank.  We want customers to go and rave about their experience to their friends and family.  There’s no better advertising for a restaurant than recommendation through word of mouth.”

The Inn at the Grosvenor is open to residents and non-residents every evening and for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays.  A typical three course meal for two adults will cost around £20 per head exclusive of wine.  A three course menu for children is charged at £9.50 per head.
