To the hungriest bidder go the spoils!

By James Russell: To the hungriest bidder go the spoils!

March 13, 2013

Amidst the thriving London restaurant scene, it’s easy to forget that not everyone in the world has enough food to eat. On 7 May, from 7pm, the Auction Against Hunger will be held on the roof of Shoreditch House in collaboration with humanitarian organisation Action Against Hunger. Calling upon some of the restaurant industry’s biggest names, the event will raise money for some of the world’s most malnourished children.

Foodie fun + fabulous prizes

Dreamt up and hosted by son of restaurant critic royalty and co-founder of Islington’s Draper’s Arms, Ben Maschler, along with Soho House’s Nick Jones, it promises to be an evening of foodie fun and once in a lifetime fabulous prizes.

Think delectable donations…. from the likes of Angela Hartnett, Mark Hix, Alain Roux, Chris Corbin and Jeremy King, ETM Group, MEATliquor, Thomasina Miers, Cinnamon Kitchen, Paul Young, Seven Park Place, The River Cafe and Soho House.

A limited number of tickets will be available to the public at £75 each, with the lucky few in with a shot of laying their hands on money-can’t-buy lots including:

·      The chance to dine with critic Jay Rayner while he reviews a restaurant

·      A decadent supper for you and eight guests cooked by Michelin-starred Angela Hartnett in your home

·      Salmon fishing in Ireland with eminent chef and restaurateur Mark Hix

·      A day and night at the Waterside Inn, Bray, including time in the kitchen with the legendary Alain Roux and dinner at the three Michelin star restaurant

·      Deer stalking with The Ledbury’s award-winning Brett Graham, followed by a venison butchery master class and lunch at The Pot Kiln, Berkshire

·      An exclusive behind the scenes experience at Michelin-starred Alyn Williams at The Westbury, with a table for four set up in the kitchen during the buzz and drama of service and a bespoke seven-course tasting menu.

As well as a live and silent auction, the evening will include a champagne reception courtesy of Champagne Taittinger, complimentary sustenance from Dirty Burger and Chicken Shop among others, a raffle and live music and magic tricks upon demand (and upon dollar) from magician to the stars Fay Presto.

One aim: to raise funding for the children

Set to be the ultimate culinary connoisseur’s charity do and a great party, Auction Against Hunger has one aim, to raise as much vital funding as possible for the malnourished children of the world. So grab a ticket and bring those deep pockets.
