Orchid Group’s Free House Dining pubs are taking the British love affair with chips to a whole new level during National Chip Week (to 24 February) by showcasing the perfect chip and creating a sharing platter paying homage to the mighty spud.
So for the week-long celebration of the nation’s passion for potatoes, Free House Dining pubs have a special new dish on the menu: ‘The Mountain of Chips’ features different takes on the traditional chip, with potato wedges, curly fries, and black pepper and onion potato dippers. There is plenty to share and a whole host of sauces for dipping.
In these health conscious times chips are an occasional treat, and when customers do indulge they want their chip to be perfect. So, at Orchid the teams are trained to deliver the perfect chip, which is created in just a few steps:
- The chips must be stored correctly so they do not get squashed or damaged
- High quality oil must be used for frying
- Chips must be put into very hot oil to ensure they are crisp outside and fluffy inside
- Chips must be served quickly and not kept in hot trays to go soggy and limp
National Chip Week will be promoted by each pub in-house and via their dedicated Facebook pages.
And some pubs are running contests such as who can win a game of chip Jenga or who can eat the most chips in five minutes!
