Savoy Educational Trust launches MBA Programme with Cranfield and seeks applications

By James Russell: Savoy Educational Trust launches MBA Programme with Cranfield and seeks applications

January 25, 2013

The Trustees of the Savoy Educational Trust are very conscious of today’s incredibly challenging economic and business environment and want to help to ensure that the ‘leaders of tomorrow’ and the future ‘captains of the hospitality industry’ are as ‘fit for purpose’ as possible.

Future leaders in the industry need to be equipped with the technical knowledge required to confront the ever changing times, be they social, technological, economic or political. There is a need to help those who will guide/influence/lead the hospitality industry tomorrow in this continually changing world.

Such leaders need to understand how to manage people, finances, the intricacies of international investors, relationships with owners, operators, suppliers, customers, and above all, how to manage and bring about change as effectively as possible.

In an ever more demanding industry, it is vital that these future leaders are as well prepared and equipped as possible. If they run successful companies, they will deliver more employment, more investment and more growth and this will all help to turn the economy around, build on the Olympic legacy, and help the industry to gain higher status amongst other industries.

Objectives

In view of the above, the Trustees would like to fully fund up to 3 MBAs per year at Cranfield School of Management, part of Cranfield University in Bedfordshire. The selected individuals may choose their preferred method of study, i.e. full time for one year or the Executive MBA which is undertaken on a part time basis over a period of 24 months. The Trustees may also look to pay a contribution towards the subsistence costs for the individuals.

Eligibility Criteria

This scheme will be open to as wide a range of applicants as possible. The Trustees anticipate the prospective candidates will currently be in a management position. They will be expected to have the equivalent of a good honours degree or professional qualification PLUS a minimum of three years relevant experience.

Applicants who have a clear record of attainment but who lack the normal qualifications will also be considered for entry. The specific experience that is required will be agreed in consultation with Cranfield.

A wide range of job titles could be suitable but as a minimum the applicant must be in a managerial role with extensive responsibilities and seeking to enter into a senior, strategic role within his/her company. The applicant must be directly engaged in the hospitality industry. They can be employed in Hotels, Contract Catering, Restaurants and Academia.

The Trustees will also consider applications from those who were recently employed in the hospitality industry (within the last twelve months) but who are struggling to find further employment in the current economic climate.
