Many actors have enjoyed – and been known to enjoy – a close relationship with pubs, often before and after performing on stage.
Then Guy Ritchie – film director and former husband of Madonna – who took to the trade with his part ownership of The Punch Bowl in London’s Mayfair.
Now, Robert Pattinson – lead actor in the highly successful Twilight Saga series of films – has admitted that he too would like to own a pub.
However, his ambition is for a ‘real working men’s pub’, which rules out trendy Central London venues. And a ‘Twilight’ themed pub also seems unlikely…
More significantly, the actor is a real supporter of the British pub, believing it has a major place in the nation’s culture, and should be actively protected from closure.
Robert, 26, believes pubs are hugely important to Britain and thinks they are one of the most important parts of every community:
“Men putting the world to rights over a few pints puts the Great into Great Britain; we have to fight to keep that.”
