Plans are well advanced for the 2013 Hospitality and Tourism Summit, sponsored by InterContinental Hotels Group, DLA Piper and Nestlé Professional and organised by the British Hospitality Association and Bench Events, and to be held on Tuesday 11 June 2013 at the InterContinental London Park Lane.
Advisory Group
An advisory group of senior industry leaders including: James Berresford, Chief Executive, Visit England; Karen Friebe, Partner, DLA Piper; Stephen McCall, Managing Director, UK & Ireland, InterContinental Hotels Group; Paula Moon, Nestlé Professional Brand Manager, Nestlé Professional; and Andrew Taylor, National Head of Leisure, RBS Commercial Banking, amongst many others met recently to discuss the key issues to be raised.
UK as a major competitor in the global marketplace
The hospitality and tourism industry continues to grow and promoting careers in the industry will be high on the agenda at the 2013 Summit. Delegates will be networking with young talent and hearing more about BHA’s Big Conversation for Hospitality. At the event, industry leaders will also present senior Government ministers with pledges to create new training vacancies and apprenticeships.
Ufi Ibrahim, Chief Executive of The British Hospitality Association said:
“In 2012, we started out on our journey towards greater recognition and growth. Ours is already a leading UK industry demonstrating huge economic potential. We must aim further – to be recognised as a major competitor in the global marketplace. 2013 will be the time to start actively realising our ambitions, and crucial to our ongoing success is the need to invest in our best resource, our young people.
“We are asking hospitality and tourism businesses from across the UK to join us at the Hospitality and Tourism Summit on 11 June 2013 to make a pledge to attract young people into hospitality, increase youth employment and reduce our skill shortages.”
Stephen McCall, IHG’s Managing Director UK and Ireland said:
“We’re delighted to host the second hospitality and tourism summit at the InterContinental London Park Lane. Our industry has so much to offer the UK in terms of job creation, skills and growth. It’s important we come together so that those who have a hand in our success – government and our partners in the financial, transport and retail sectors for example – hear from us with one voice.”
