The beer gets through with Head of Steam

By James Russell: The beer gets through with Head of Steam

December 18, 2012

The Head Of Steam group of pubs have been waiting patiently since September for the micro-brewers of Northern Ireland to have enough beer available to send over to north east England, such is the demand for their beers locally.

The beers finally arrived on 13 December – a date that was clearly ‘lucky for some’ – on pallets of 18 casks delivered to the Cluny in Newcastle, the Central in Gateshead and The Head Of Steam in Huddersfield. The Cluny and Central casks needed to be spread between the company’s other pubs in the area.

Urgent delivery – by car

Urgency was the watchword, so cars had to be used to get the casks to the pubs.

As can be seen in the photos, Tony Brookes, Managing Director of The Head Of Steam Ltd sprang into action, personally loading casks into the front seat of his old Jaguar, where it would be secured by the seat belt – here it’s a cask of Clanconnel Blonde. Said Tony:

“I can fit 8 casks safely in my Jag. Maybe that’s why I had to keep replacing the springs on my last one.”

Who needs passengers, when 3 casks sit so nicely on the back seat!
