BII, the leading professional body for the pub industry, has announced the appointment of a new, long-term chief executive to succeed Peter Thomas, who plans to step down next year.
Tim Hulme is currently deputy principal at Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College – the largest college of further education in the capital, with 20,000 students – a position he has held for just over three years.
He and Peter Thomas will initially work together through a period of transition before Hulme takes full executive control of the organisation in the spring.
Thomas, who has led BII for just over a year, said:
“I’m delighted that the BII has secured someone of Tim’s calibre and character, and am looking forward to working with him, and supporting him, in the on-going development of the organisation.
“Tim was the outstanding candidate for the role. He has a great blend of skills, not least strong strategic leadership and a track record of delivering commercial success at complex organisations. As well as senior posts in further education, he has also worked in industry so brings a rich breadth of experience.”
He brings to the role a track record of commercial success, having forged a high-flying career in construction and the pharmaceutical sector as well as in education. He has substantial experience in leading large multi-disciplinary organisations through periods of change.
Commenting on his appointment, Hulme said:
