Nothing like telling a good story to make an impression and at a recent restaurant review we stumbled across a gem of a story about wine, and it goes like this…
May 24th 1976 was a beautiful sunny day in Paris and in small hotel room that day, a strange thing happened. Something that changed a centuries-old status quo and rocked the ‘civilised’ world to it’s roots.
In a blind tasting with some of the leading French wine aficionados of the day, Californian wines were chosen over France’s very best. Chateau Pétrus or d’Yquem no longer ruled.
Shortly after that auspicious day in Paris The Vineyard opened its doors and it was at The Vineyard the other evening that we were shown ‘After the Upset’. A picture commissioned by Sir Peter Michael proprietor of The Vineyard to commemorate the day the wine world changed forever.
During our visit Sommelier Yohann Jousselin MS told us the full story of the Judgement of Paris but our memories couldn’t do the story justice.
