Theatre Royal Building to expand Radisson Blu Edwardian, Manchester

By James Russell: Theatre Royal Building to expand Radisson Blu Edwardian, Manchester

November 26, 2012

London-based Edwardian Group has acquired the Theatre Royal Building sited next door to its Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel in Manchester, and will use it to substantially expand the hotel and its facilities.

It is understood that plans are still in preparation, though it is likely that a banqueting hall will be at the centre of the development.

The Theatre Royal Building was opened in 1845 and has seen many uses,  including cinema, bingo hall and nightclub. In recent years, however, it has not been in use, and this move therefore represents safety from decline and worse for a Manchester landmark.

The Edwardian Group stated:

“Edwardian Group, London will work with Manchester City Council and English Heritage in developing plans for the commercial use of the site which will include restoring elements of this potentially fine building and enhancing the experience for customers of Manchester’s finest five-star hotel.”
