Independent South East regional pub group InnBrighton Ltd is expanding its London presence with the opening of The Candlemaker in Battersea High Street.
InnBrighton has grown to an estate of 50 venues in the London and Brighton areas. Recent additions include The Great Exhibition in East Dulwich, The Dissenting Academy in Newington Green, The North Laine and The Mesmerist, both in Brighton.
The Candlemaker
Battersea High Street received a welcome new addition on Thursday 1st November in the shape of a beautifully refurbished pub, The Candlemaker. Formerly The Greyhound, the pub takes its inspiration from the candle factory that operated for over a hundred years in nearby York Road.
An additional nod to the pub’s sixties heyday as a thriving market tavern is represented by the colourful pop-art and psychedelic imagery adorning the walls. The radical refit also extends to the garden with “outdoor rooms” both front and rear, colourfully lit and containing cosy heated pods.
Landlord Simon Duddington is confident The Candlemaker will re-energise the southern end of Battersea High Street:
“It’s just what the area needs. A place to eat, drink and socialise that is original, independent and that understands its roots and is proud of them. We aim to help make this beautiful, cobbled part of Battersea High Street a destination now and in the future.”
The Candlemaker can be found at 136 Battersea High Street, SW11 3JR close to the junction of York Road and Battersea Park Road and is served by buses 44, 45A, 49, 219, 249, 319, 337. Doors open at 5pm.
