Following the recent openings in Guildford and Windsor, YO! Sushi continues to roll out its brand of casual Japanese cuisine with a prime site in York – their ninth restaurant opening this year, with more planned.
The next opening in Exeter in November will take the group to 64 restaurants in the UK, serving 100,000 guests every week (5 million every year), accounting for approximately 10% of the UK’s adult population.
The York restaurant opens on Thursday 18th on Church Street, one of the busiest pedestrian areas in the city, guaranteeing a high footfall. The restaurant will feature 65 covers across 3,000 square feet, comprising 18 two-seater booths and 29 high stools, arranged around YO! Sushi’s trademark ‘kaiten’ conveyor belt.
Departure from YO! Sushi’s usual colour theme
Designer Philip Watts has created an interior fusion of texture and colour combinations. A departure from YO! Sushi’s traditional white and orange colour theme, the central seating booths are upholstered in ‘wasabi green’ faux leather, with black, white and grey tiling to create a clean and contemporary feel, whilst slatted birch ceiling rafts add warmth and texture.
Tables and counter-tops are made from a light Corian, juxtaposed against the timber slats that clad the preparation area at the centre of the space. Evenly spaced around the conveyor belt, bubble call poles enable customers to signal staff for service. The walls at the back of the restaurant also exhibit ‘How To YO!’ signs along with plasma screens mounted inwards, providing info, offers and direction for those new to the concept.
