A new 11-part wine-based show in association with Laithwaite’s Wine and hosted by actor and writer Simon Callow has started on Classic FM on Sunday afternoons at 3pm. Called Tasting Notes, the show aims to celebrate the relationship between wine and classical music. Indeed, it is said that listening to music while enjoying a glass of wine can actually enhance its flavour.
Simon Callow is famous for his acting roles in films like Four Weddings and a Funeral and Shakespeare In Love as well as his recent stage role as Charles Dickens, and will be the guide on a musical tour of famous wine regions. He commented:
“I’m delighted to have this opportunity of talking to Classic FM’s many listeners about two of the greatest joys of civilisation, classical music and wine, both of which are right at the centre of my life.”
Regions in France, Spain, Italy, Australia, South Africa and more will be covered by Callow, who will attempt to match the music to the wine. The featured wines will be available to purchase through the Laithwaite’s Wine website and Classicfm.com.
No doubt there will be many restaurants and wine bars listening in to see if they can discover music that will encourage their customers to enjoy new wines. H & C News would welcome any feedback on the programmes, and if/how they are influencing restaurants and wine bars.
