British Cheese Week is a nationwide campaign designed to promote all British Cheese, and starts with the announcement of the winners of the British Cheese Awards at the Awards Dinner on Friday 21st September, followed by the opening of the Great British Cheese Festival on Saturday 22nd September.
Supported by cheesemakers, retailers, restaurants and the media it also coincides with British Food Fortnight.
Thanks to the support of RYVITA, British Cheese Week has had more support than ever in 2012, enabling it to support more activities, and to further raise the profile of British Cheese.
The British Cheese Awards
Were established in 1994 by Juliet Harbutt to raise the profile of British cheese and create a recognised symbol of excellence for all British cheese. At the same time British Cheese Week – a nationwide campaign – was created to follow the announcement of the winners each year at the Awards Dinner.
In 2000 the Great British Cheese Festival, now owned and run by Cardiff City Council, was added to educate and inspire the consumer and in 2011 Cheeses on the Green was created to give consumers a chance to see and taste over 900 cheeses left over from the judging.
Together these events have become a highly successful marketing campaign for British cheese, cheesemakers and cheese retailers.
