For the past 30 years or so I have enjoyed frequenting Pizza Express as the brand mostly delivers on its promise. Good food and good service at a fair price.
Yesterday evening my wife and I went to our local Pizza Express in Sunningdale, recently refurbished and looking and feeling very chic.
It was our 26th wedding anniversary yesterday and our three sons booked and pre paid for a night out for mum and dad, thanks boys nice touch!
When we went in it was buzzing with people of all age groups enjoying a beautiful summer evening supper. The waiter welcomed us and was very friendly, drinks were ordered and menus pondered.
We shared garlic bread with mozzarella to start which was tasty. For main course Angela ordered Pomodoro Pesto Leggera – Light mozzarella, marinated santos tomatoes, fresh basil, pesto and garlic oil – I had a Romana Pizza – Goats cheese, mozzarella, spinach, red & caramelised onions and garlic oil.
The easiest way to describe both pizzas is that we both immediately agreed they were the best pizza we had ever eaten. No doubt about it I can’t remember eating pizza as good as we enjoyed yesterday evening in Sunningdale.
For dessert we ordered Dolcetti, Mini puddings that come with coffee, Angela asked for tea instead as she doesn’t drink coffee, no problem. I had Dolcetti Chocolate truffle ice cream and Angela had Dolcetti Mini Chocolate Fudge Cake, both were fantastic.
To top the evening off the waiter, a Polish guy called Kamil came over and wished us a happy anniversary delivering two cup cakes and a small plate of Baby figs, cinnamon & white wine spiced syrup and mascarpone. We asked for a doggy box for the cakes as two desserts would have been just too much. The Baby figs, cinnamon & white wine spiced syrup with mascarpone went down a treat and I will order on future visits, 10/10.
H&C News regularly reviews restaurants and every week we award Chef’s Restaurant of the Week in association with our good friends at Great British Chefs. Restaurant of the Week most weeks goes to Michelin star restaurants. I am not for a moment comparing Pizza Express Sunningdale with Michelin star restaurants. But as we are fortunate to experience great food experiences regularly we recognise another easily.
So a big thanks to the staff at Pizza Express Sunningdale, the food yesterday evening was exceptional and the service even better, looking forward to the next visit!
