Now the Olympic Torch Relay has reached Britain’s shores in Cornwall, the British Beer & Pub Association says the celebration promises to be a great opportunity for Britain’s pubs. The BBPA released figures showing that there are an astonishing 370 pubs in towns along the Cornish part of the torch route, with many thousands more, as the torch makes its way across Britain towards its momentous date with destiny.
The Torch Relay and the Olympics make for a vital opportunity – and a huge celebration – for pubs. New research published last week by Visit Britain shows that over 50 per cent of visitors to the UK will visit a pub. While pubs provide great hospitality for visitors at any time, they are also one of the very best places to enjoy sport with friends – it’s the next best thing to being in the Olympic Stadium, and a great place to cheer on the British team. Every one of Britain’s athletes is from a local community somewhere, and the pub is the best possible place to join together to cheer them on.
