James Martin’s Talbot Hotel opens doors

By James Russell: James Martin’s Talbot Hotel opens doors

May 1, 2012

Following a major £4 million refurbishment by the Fitzwilliam Estate the Talbot Hotel opened its doors on 1 May 2012 with new partner, celebrity chef James Martin.  The Talbot Hotel has been restored to its former 17th Century glory as a beautiful country hotel with a focus on creating a stellar reputation for first-rate cuisine.

The collaboration with James Martin is a perfect merger.  The talented Yorkshire-born chef is excited to celebrate Malton’s growing reputation as a foodie destination.  All James’ favourite Yorkshire produce is on the menu, from Wakefield rhubarb to Whitby crab.   The Talbot Hotel is delighted to be working with James, whose enthusiasm for the project and renowned skill are the perfect ingredients to create exciting dishes that show off the best of Yorkshire and place the hotel firmly on the gastronomic map.

The restaurant has been completely remodelled and is now complete with elegant furniture, crisp white linen and fine silver cutlery.  The gorgeous new restaurant has 60 covers.  There is also a lounge bar which provides food, and a private dining area seating up to 60.

The brand new interior features 26 individually decorated bedrooms, including two luxurious suites.  Each of the guest rooms has been given a distinct personality, creating a far more personal and intimate experience.

Guests may opt for the grand Rockingham Room that houses a magnificent four-poster bed and stunning chandelier.  Alternatively, guests could choose to indulge in the luxurious Houghton Suite, which has a separate lounge area with an original 17th Century fireplace, dining table and sofa. Or perhaps the bright Malton Double Room, with a playful aqua and green colour scheme would better suit some guests. Room rates start at £145 Bed and Breakfast.

Outside, beautifully landscaped grounds provide a picturesque backdrop to the handsome building.  There is also generous car parking facilities and space for a marquee to host a range of summer events. Malton itself is an idyllic market town in North Yorkshire, offering a charming mix of independent specialist shops, craft skills and delicious local fayre.  General Manager, Robert Wormall, is positive the new hotel will be a credit to Malton, and provide a revitalising buzz.

Other attractions include the nearby Castle Howard, situated on the edge of the haunting Yorkshire Moors, as well as a number of enchanting seaside towns.
