Satsuma, post refurb to offer Japanese Katsu curries

By James Russell: Satsuma, post refurb to offer Japanese Katsu curries

August 11, 2011

Satsuma, Soho’s urban-style Japanese restaurant, closed its doors mid-June 2011 for an extensive refurbishment.  Officially re-opening on 29 August 2011, Satsuma’s authentic Japanese cuisine will shift its focus to specialise in Japanese Katsu curries.

The complete redesign will include ultra-cool pod-style seating.  The futuristic pods, seating up to four, will be enclosed on four sides with windows in the roof to allow in subtle lighting.  The restaurant will keep Satsuma’s signature colour scheme of orange and grey, emanating Soho’s vibrant ambience.

The new menu will specialise in “building your own” Japanese Katsu curries.  The sauce base of the curry will come in regular and spicy, to which diners can add their choice of meats, fish and vegetables.  Those brave enough to try the “Explosive” Katsu sauce and completely finish the dish will receive their lunch or dinner for free, excluding drinks.

Set on two floors, Satsuma will seat 80 guests. The restaurant will retain the floor-to-ceiling glass frontage overlooking Soho’s quirky shops and boutiques.  Pods as well as open plan tables will be available on both floors.

Satsuma has been part of the Royal China Group since 1998 and is its only Japanese restaurant.  The restaurant has been a popular hangout for the trendy media types of Soho who take pleasure in the restaurant’s healthy Japanese cuisine offered at great value-for-money.
