Fuller’s adds The Lamb & Flag, Covent Garden, to growing portfolio

By James Russell: Fuller’s adds The Lamb & Flag, Covent Garden, to growing portfolio

June 27, 2011

London brewer and pub retailer Fuller, Smith and Turner P.L.C. is delighted to announce that it has added another legendary pub, The Lamb & Flag in Covent Garden, to its high quality portfolio of London pubs.

The Lamb & Flag is reputedly one of the oldest pubs in London, and the 17th century, Grade II-listed building lays claim to having Charles Dickens as a former patron. The pub is tucked away from the main routes but its long history and fantastic reputation have made it a popular destination for both local workers and tourists alike.

The pub’s downstairs bar boasts traditional low beams and the centuries of bric-a-brac on the walls give the pub a cosy feel, making every visitor feel at home. The upstairs bar is named after the poet John Dryden, another former patron, and is a favourite base for those looking to enjoy their pint in slightly less busy surroundings.

Simon Emeny, Group Managing Director of Fuller’s said: “The Lamb & Flag is one of London’s best known pubs, but for anyone who comes across it for the first time, they feel like they’ve stumbled upon a hidden piece of history. It’s a terrific reminder of how a great pub can stand the test of time.

“Covent Garden and the West End are areas in which I feel we have previously been under-represented, but with The Roundhouse on Garrick Street, and now The Lamb & Flag less than a stone’s throw away, that is no longer the case. I am incredibly proud to add this pub to our estate.”

The Lamb & Flag is the fifth pub to be added to the Fuller’s estate this year and will operate within the managed estate, bringing Fuller’s total number of pubs to 362.
