Plans unveiled to convert former bank into new £20m hotel in Glasgow

By James Russell: Plans unveiled to convert former bank into new £20m hotel in Glasgow

February 3, 2011

Shepherd Developments has unveiled plans to convert a former bank into a new hotel in Glasgow.

The proposals for the former RBS building in the prime city centre site will see a 120-room ‘aparthotel’ built with shopping at street level.

Aparthotels offer fully-fitted flats to give operators more flexibility around how they generate revenue.

Shepherd will apply for planning permission to redevelop the Dale Street building in March,  Paul Devine, property consultant and project manager, said: “We have identified an opportunity to bring this site back into use for the benefit of the city.

We are in talks with a very well known international outfit for a 120-room aparthotel. The site also offers space for one or two large retail units.

We have already had interest from retailers and food outlets.”
