Devon seafood restaurant sold on behalf of celebrity chef

By James Russell: Devon seafood restaurant sold on behalf of celebrity chef

December 9, 2010

Acting on behalf of vendors Mark Wright and Master Chef of Great Britain Paul Da Costa Greaves, Christie + Co has sold the freehold of the Gallery Restaurant, the locally-renowned seafood restaurant in Topsham, Devon, to Mitchell & Vian Ltd, for an undisclosed sum, off an asking price of £495,000.

The Grade II-Listed fish restaurant, which has an excellent local reputation, offers 45 covers laid out over two floors, with owner’s accommodation above.

High-profile chef Paul Da Costa Greaves has sold the restaurant to concentrate on his other business interests, including Feeding Your Imagination Ltd, the West Country-based chocolatiers, of which he is a director.

Simon Harvey, Director from Christie + Co’s Exeter office, who handled the sale, said: “New owners, Michael Vian Clark and Nigel Mitchell, trading as Mitchell & Vian Ltd, are an enthusiastic team, who will bring renewed vigour and drive to a well-regarded business in this ever-popular estuary town. The restaurant occupies a prominent position in this vibrant community and we are sure that The Galley will continue to grow under its enthusiastic new ownership.”
