Green light for new four star plus hotel in Greenwich

By James Russell: Green light for new four star plus hotel in Greenwich

November 10, 2010

London’s Greenwich council has approved two major buildings to stand next to the O2 dome.

The scheme features a 22-storey hotel and 24-storey apartment block, both designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands for Ansco Hotels, a real estate vehicle linked to the owners of the O2.

The 452 bedroom hotel will be accompanied by a tower of 100 serviced apartments and a 3,000 sq ft ballroom.

The plans will now be considered by the Mayor of London before building work can start. If approved, the project will create at least 170 construction jobs.

Cllr Denise Hyland, Greenwich Council’s member for regeneration, enterprise and skills, said: “This will be the first four-star hotel east of Tower Bridge on this side of the river.

“If the scheme gets the final go-ahead, the hotel will provide much-needed tourist accommodation for The O2 and what will then be the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It will also mean more job opportunities for local people.”

The scheme marks another step in the emergence of Greenwich Peninsula. Although there are other four star hotels in east London, this is the first one to be four star plus.
