Cricklade Hotel & Country Club sold to experienced hoteliers

By James Russell: Cricklade Hotel & Country Club sold to experienced hoteliers

August 17, 2010

Acting on behalf of a private client, Christie + Co has sold the Cricklade Hotel & Country Club in Wiltshire, to experienced hoteliers Phil & Val Harris of Ambienza Hotels, owners of the award-winning Cotswolds88hotel, for an undisclosed sum.

Standing in over 30 acres of secluded grounds on the edge of the Cotswolds, the 46-bedroom Cricklade Hotel & Country Club is an impressive country house, which was built at the turn of the last century, and has been tastefully restored and carefully extended.

The business, which benefits from wonderful panoramic views over the Wiltshire countryside, features a restaurant, six conference rooms and extensive leisure facilities, including a nine-hole golf course, outdoor tennis court, indoor pool, spa, steam room and gymnasium.

New owners Mr & Mrs Harris currently operate the award-winning, lifestyle boutique business Costwolds88hotel in Painswick, Gloucestershire and its sister hotel, Château de Sanse in south west France.

Mr Harris said: “We are extremely pleased to have completed the acquisition of Cricklade Hotel & Country Club. I am confident that the hotel will now go from strength to strength under the new management team.”

Mr Neil Scott, Group General Manger for Ambienza Hotels, said: “We are putting together an extensive programme of improvements for the hotel. Our goal for the hotel is to become one of the best 4-star hotels in the region. I am confident that we can achieve this within 18 months. The food & Beverage operation will now be under the watchful eye of Lee Scott, Group Executive Head Chef, who was recently awarded Cotswolds Chef of the year.”

Simon Stevens, Director at Christie + Co, said: “Despite the current challenging climate, quality hotel businesses continue to attract high-levels of interest, with buyers willing to act decisively for the right opportunity. Cricklade Hotel & Country Club was no different, with a deal agreed and completed for this established business within eight weeks.

“An ideal countryside-based venue for all types of meetings, training courses, presentations and conferences, we believe Cricklade Hotel & Country Club will make the perfect addition to Phil Harris’ already impressive portfolio.”
