Acting on behalf of Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company, Christie + Co has sold the freehold of O’Donoghue’s in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, to Great Heck Brewing Company Limited, for an undisclosed sum, off an asking price of £175,000.
Situated in a densely-populated area, just off Wakefield’s main retail and licensed area, O’Donoghue’s is a traditional wet-led pub comprising a single bar area and two-bedroom owner’s accommodation.
The purchase of O’Donoghue’s marks the first pub acquisition for the Great Heck Brewing Company Limited, which was founded by Denzil Vallance and Jason Hall. The company intends to change the pub’s name back to its original of The Bull, and is also planning a refurbishment programme.
Nicholas Thomas, from Christie + Co’s Leeds Office, commented: “O’Donoghue’s attracted a good level of interest with a number of bids submitted. Almost all the interest received was for continued public house use with buyers recognising that the present market offers a great opportunity to buy freehold pubs at attractive prices. The purchase of O’Donoghue’s will give the Great Heck Brewing Company the perfect opportunity to showcase its range beers to a wider audience.”
