SEAFOOD RESTAURANT NAMED TRAIN TO GAIN EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR
AT ANNUAL SOUTH WEST SKILLS AWARDS
On Wednesday 2nd June, The Seafood Restaurant was awarded the Train to Gain Employer of the Year Award at the prestigious annual South West Skills Awards 2010, held at the Sandy Park Conference and Banqueting Centre, Exeter.
Kate Adie OBE, who became a household name as the BBC’s Chief News Correspondent, presented the awards, addressing an audience of the South West’s apprentices, learners and employers who had been nominated for awards in workplace learning.
The Seafood Restaurant’s General Manager Rupert Wilson, Executive Chef David Sharland and Human Resources Manager Michael Rabone attended the ceremony to collect the award.
Michael Rabone comments: “We were absolutely delighted to be presented with the award. We’re really pleased with the success of our training and development programmes, it’s a fantastic achievement for the company and it’s great to have been recognised by the South West Skills Council in this way.”
The Train to Gain Employer of the Year Award recognises an employer who can demonstrate the tangible benefits of workforce development on its business.
For the past three years The Seafood Restaurant has utilised the full support of Mel Colton-Dyer (Truro and Penwith College) and Clare Harris (Train to Gain) to help to develop the training and development programmes within the business.
Michael continues: “We are committed to developing the best people internally and have also been able to support over 30 individuals to take part in an accredited leadership programme funded via Train to Gain. The results speak for themselves – in the past year we’ve been able to fill 90% of new leadership roles with internal candidates.
“This has been enhanced by the ability to deliver a broad range of NVQ Level 2 and level 3 qualifications, our apprenticeships and the development of our internal programmes such as our Aspiring Managers scheme.”
Rupert Wilson comments: “We’ve worked really hard to provide excellent career opportunities in an environment that is committed to supporting the personal development of our staff.
“Michael has put a huge amount of hard work into our internal training programmes, he’s done a fantastic job and this award gives him the recognition and credit that he really deserves.”
